A series of conflicts between the United States and Native American Indian tribes took place in the Great Plains area of the United States from 1865-1890. Some of the Native American tribes involved in the conflicts included the Sioux, Lakota, Cheyenne, Comanche, Kiowa, Apache, and Arapaho. The most well-known battle of this period was the Battle of Little Bighorn (1876), in which General Custer and some of the 7th Cavalry Regiment were defeated by Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull’s combined armies. This period is often popularized in stories and movies of lone US cavalry patrols or outposts making "last stands" against hordes of Indians.

For US Cavalry figures, we suggest using ACW28, ACW29, ACW30, ACW34, ACW36, and ACW38 from the American Civil War range.
...and for wagons and civilians ACW61 and ACW62 also from the American Civil War range.

All of the major raids were unsuccessful but this is a lesser covered period in wargaming and makes for some interesting games.

The War of the Pacific took place from 1879 to 1883, with Bolivia and Peru on one side and Chile on the other. The war ended with victory for Chile, which gained a significant amount of land from Peru and Bolivia. Battles were fought in the Pacific Ocean, the Atacama Desert, Peru's deserts, and mountainous regions in the Andes. For the first five months the war played out in a naval campaign, as Chile struggled to establish a sea-based resupply corridor for its forces in the world's driest desert.
