Warlord: 2nd Edition Core Rulebook

Cast in the brutal battles for supremacy in war-torn Taltos, Warlord is a swords & sorcery tabletop miniatures game. Brave knights and heroic beings wage war against sinister demons and monstrous abominations.

Warlord is a complete game system that uses the Reaper Adventure Game Engine (R.A.G.E.) for faster and more enjoyable play. Each model in the game has a set of numbers and abilities that dictate how well it performs in the game. These numbers and abilities are listed on a Data Card, an easy to read record sheet about the size of a standard poker card and freely downloadable here or at reapergames.com. A key component of the R.A.G.E. system is the Damage Track. Each row of stats on the Data Card represents a Damage Track which is the total points of damage that the model can sustain before being destroyed and removed from play. As a model takes damage, its stats change to reflect its changing performance on the field of battle!

Tabletop Miniatures Games:
Reaper's tabletop miniature games are played with plastic and/or metal 28mm miniatures on a large flat surface - typically a 4' x 4' square table. Each player will need to build an army using the various 28mm plastic and/or metal miniatures that Reaper produces in its various product lines.

About the World of Warlord

Warlord takes place in the war-torn land of Taltos in the world of Adon. The region is a place of dry, blistering summers and mild winters. Various leaders and their forces battle for the control of their own destinies. The battle for the power to become Warlords and become legends by their own hands - some are just and fair and others are cruel and capricious. Life in Taltos is brutal but there is a fortune to be made and eternal fame to be won.

Warlord: The Savage North

Is both a master game and an expansion to the Warlord Game

Warlord: The Savage North contains everything you need to play 8 brand new factions for the Warlord Second Edition game system. Leaving the land of Taltos for the frozen lands of northern Adon, the book features the Warlord Second Edition core rules and eight battle-ready, hardcore factions! A history of the setting, map, and detailed background information for each of the forces offers players an opportunity to build and paint unique armies in this inhospitable region.

Dark Horse Comment:

We really like this game - and here's why:

Warlord 2nd Edition - Necropolis Warlord
  • Price: - The rules are quite economical, the models are fairly priced, though you dont need many to play the game. There are NO army books required, everything you need is in the rulebooks, and you only need the book that contains the faction or factions you wish to play. (Two choices for a total of 19 factions at present.)
  • Game Mechanics - The ruleset is fast, fun and easy to learn. Once learned it is easily transfered to other genres or systems just by swapping the Data cards, which can be fairly easy to create yourself. But if you are playing any of Reaper Miniatures games (or others that use the R.A.G.E. Engine), they are usually readily available, such as the free Cowboys & Gunslingers data cards. If you like to play Sci-Fi, Wild West, Pirates or any number of other games, R.A.G.E. is your engine! As an example of how versatile this system is - did we mention that C.A.V. (Combat Assault Vehicle), Reapers Mecha Game also uses the R.A.G.E. Engine?
  • Minis!! - The line of models is great but you can also use any models you want from other Reaper lines like Bones or Dark Heaven Legends, and yes even from other companies entirely. These rules are so adaptable that your imagination is the limit.

R.A.G.E.

The Reaper Adventure Game Engine

Warlord is the first game to use the Reaper Adventure Game Engine (R.A.G.E. for short). As a master system, R.A.G.E. allows you to learn a few basic rules and then take this knowledge with you from game setting to game setting. One system for many games means that you spend less time learning and relearning rules and more time playing and painting.

Key Features of the R.A.G.E. game engine

*Easy mechanics - Roll one ten-sided dice. Add or subtract modifiers. Meet or exceed a target number. All target numbers and modifiers fit on a one page quick glance sheet or are printed on the figure's Data Card.

*Fluid play - A Turn is divided into 2 Actions per Model. The order and what actions are conducted are fully in your control. Each setting will have one or two new Actions specific to its genre, but the rest of the Actions remain the same from game to game.

*Strategy and Tactics - You are in control of not only the rolling of dice and moving of figures, but also general force creation and preparing for the surprises of combat against other players.

*Data Cards - All information relevant to a Model's game related mechanics easily fit on a standard poker card sized Data Card. As more powerful Models are damaged, their fighting ability will degrade until they are removed from play.

*Faction or Freelance Play - All R.A.G.E. games will feature various colorful factions and armies that you can choose from. There will also be the ability to portray a Freelance force that allows you to picks and choose from all the Models in the line to custom tailor your force. Faction forces gain special powers and abilities; Freelance forces gain ultimate customization freedom. The end result is more options and more fun for you.

*Defensive Rolls - All R.A.G.E. games feature a defensive roll of some kind. Players no longer just wait for their opponents to complete their actions and watch as their forces are attacked. Players are involved when attacking as well as defending which keeps the game interesting and enjoyable.
